Kovu is Nuka's younger brother. Before Scar died, he chose Kovu to follow in his pawprints and become King. Nuka was not happy with this.
One day, Kovu met Kiara, Simba's daughter, and they became best friends. However, when Zira heard about this, she taught her son that Simba was the enemy and trained him to be a killer, with Nuka and Vitani's help.
A fully-grown Kovu was made to participate in a plot, in which he would rescue Kiara, then Simba would let him into his pride, and Kovu would kill him. However, this changed as Kovu's feelings for Kiara developed.
Zira was unhappy by this and started war on Simba's pride. Eventually, her pride moved over to Simba's, and Zira fell off a cliff and died, despite Kiara's efforts to help her. Simba then changed his mind about Kovu, letting him and the other Outlanders into his pride.
Vitani is Nuka's younger sister and the less important of Zira's children. As a cub, Vitani is a sly, cunning type, and she is very playful; she and Kovu play-fight.
As an adult, she has very little role, except for the fires that she and Nuka set for Zira's plot
Zira is one of the lionesses who followed in Scar's pawprints. She, her children, and various of her followers were banished by Simba to the Outlands, hence the name Outlanders. Zira's children are Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu. Thier father is unknown, but rumours suggest it might be Scar.
When Zira catches her son Kovu playing with Simbas daughter, Kiara, she toughens him up to be a killer and sets him on a plot to kill Simba. But Kovu develops his feelings for Kiara instead, and when Zira hears this, she ambushes Simba and his pride.
When Zira threatens to kill Vitani in the battle, after Kiara and Kovu try to prevent the fight, the whole of Zira's pride moves over to Simba's. For revenge, Zira attacks Kiara. They both roll down to a cliff, which Zira falls off even though Kiara tries to save her.
Scar is the supposed father of Nuka, Vitani and Kovu. It is because of him that Zira and the other Outlanders were banished.
